Reiki therapy as an energetic treatment

Energetic treatment to remove blockages in the body and allow energy to flow freely.

What is Reiki?

Reiki therapy is an energetic treatment. Energy can stagnate in the body where there is physical injury or emotional pain. Over time, these energy blockages can cause complaints. This energetic treatment aims to help promote the energy flow in the body's energy channels and to remove blockages, help reduce stress and help bring the body, both physically and mentally, back into balance.

What happens during a Reiki session?

The Reiki therapist will usually give a Reiki treatment in a quiet, private setting. During a session, the client sits in a comfortable chair or lies fully clothed on a table.

The therapist will then place their hands lightly on or above specific areas of the client's head, limbs, and torso. The hands are usually held in these positions for 3-10 minutes. The goal is always for the client to feel safe and comfortable at all times so that the energy can do its work.

The touches are often light and focused on transmitting energy, rather than deep massage that works on the muscles, as in traditional massage. During this time, the therapist's hands may feel warm or tingle.

Sessions can last anywhere from 30-90 minutes on average. Some clients benefit from one session, while others need a series of sessions to work on a particular issue.

However, it is important to note that Reiki therapy should never take the place of medical treatments.

Clients report different experiences. Some say the practitioner’s hands get hot, others report cooling hands, and some feel waves, vibrations, or currents. The most common experiences are stress release and deep relaxation.
